“We have not ordained perpetual life for any human being before thee. So if you die, will they abide forever?” [Holy Qur’an 21:34]
Netflix series: Messiah thoughts so far…..
The first few episodes pull you in. It is in intriguing. However, there are some really problematic points.
1 The oldest of the legal schools in Islam the school of Jabir Bin Zayed there is nothing about Jesus or any Mahdi [salvic] figure coming to aid the Muslims in the future. That is the Ibadi does not believe in it.
2. The majority of Muslims believe that Jesus will return but again keep in mind this is not the belief of the early Muslims.
3. Nothing in the Qur’an substantiates the return of Jesus.
Now as regards the actual portrayal of this Messiah as ‘Masih’
A] He would never refer to God as ‘Father‘ that is a Christian concept through and through. Unless they are keeping that deliberately ambiguous.
B] This Messiah figure quotes ‘scripture‘ while often He quotes from the Qur’an he quotes ‘scripture’ that is certainly not in the Qur’an.
Therefore another plot hole is what is this ‘scripture’ because it looks like Netflix is conflating the Qur’an with the oral traditions [some of which are reliable and others which are spurious]
For example when he is in Jerusalem at the Al Aqsa Masjid and he says, ‘ “The scriptures say that on judgement day a set of scales will be hung from these arches to weigh all souls.”
Where is this “scripture” from?
That is not in the Qur’an.
That is not in the New Testament.
That is not in the TNCH of the Jews, what Christians call the ‘Old Testament‘.
Insh’Allah I’ll be writing an article on the definitive proofs from the Ibadi [Ahl Haqq Wal Istiqama] school on why we believe that Jesus is dead and will not return.
This will be based upon the works of Shaykh Nassir bin Abi Nabhaan Al Kharusi -may Allah continue to have mercy on him and bless us through his knowledge.
The book: Qaamuus Shariaah by Shaykh Jumayyil Alsaadi-may Allah continue to have mercy on him and bless us through his knowledge.
The book: Tamhiid Qawaaidi Al-Imanni by Shaykh Saeed bin Khalfaan Al-Khalili-may Allah continue to have mercy on him and bless us through his knowledge.
As well as Grand Mufti of Oman’s writings: Shaykh Ahmed Al Khalili-may Allah continue to have mercy on him and bless us through his knowledge.
For that matter we also do not believe that any Mahdi or ‘apocalyptic‘ figure will come.
