Uthman Ibn Farooq was he really attacked?

“O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both.1 So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is ever, of what you do, Aware.” (Qur’an 4: 135)

I really do not like to be ‘that guy‘ but there are allot of things about this alleged knife stabbing that is not adding up.

First and foremost there are certainly people out there who would attack Muslims unprovoked. Muslim women have their hijabs torn off and even Sikhs (mistaken to be Muslims) get attacked. These things do happen.

Any attack upon anyone of any faith tradition, especially one that is unprovoked is reprehensible and should be condemned.

Now unfortunately there are blatant click bait and out and out lies being propagated all over YouTube: Titles such as: “Sheikh Uthman attack caught on tape.” and so forth. However, no such video’s has been shown of any actual stabbing.

This is the video released by Sheikh Uthman himself and there are a few things that raised an eye brow.

“I was downtown San Diego there was a guy in a truck that tried to yell racist abusive stuff and then they call us terrorist they call us names but their the ones that initiate. We go out to a park we go out and give Daw’ah. Peacefully we just share information about Islam these people they come out they are unable to debate with us academically. We give them evidence from the Qur’an, from Sahih ahadith from there own scriptures. And they have no answer. So what do they do they turn to this type of abuse. Terrorism and violence. So he tried to yell abusive things. I told him come and face me. But as I was driving he tried to tail me and when I stopped at a gas station to put gas in my car he parked up top. I went closer to him and I told him If you have something to say come say to my face when I saw him come out of the car. I recorded and we have recording and I’m gonna post it. Were gonna clip it and show you the recording. I’m gonna give you a warning he uses very fowl language. So if you have children be careful during that time. This is not language that we as Muslims would ever use. In it he TRIED to attack me, physically. And you’ll see the altercation. And, and even though I punched him. And he was too cowardly to fight me like a man. He took a knife and he TRIED to cut me. Wal Hamdulillah, by the will of Allah (swt) I’m fine. His attack did nothing to me. I went to the urgent care. And hamdulillah I’m perfectly fine. There is no issue. Were not stopping it, anything. Were continuing our daw’ah. Were going to continue what were doing. Were going to Utah this weekend. Continuing to call towards Allah (swt). If I am in San Diego I’m going out to the park. I don’t need any security I don’t need anything else. I have Allah (swt). And Allah will protect us. This person he’s not gonna get away with it. “

The man approaches the car: “I seen you man I seen your f*#$#ing videos bro. Your a f*#$#ing terrorist dawg. F you! F you and your Muzlim f&)*ing bull $8it dawg. F you I’m an infidel what’s up mother $)*ker.”

Sheikh Uthman replies: “I gotch you I gotch you. You wanna talk that stuff. You wanna talk that stuff. You wanna. You think I’m scared of you. You think I’m scared of you.” (sound of the door shuts)

“Insh’Allah this person is gonna get caught. If he’s watching don’t think your gonna get away with it. We have your face. Your not hiding enough. We have your weapon that’s been given to the police. We filed, a report has already been filed. The detectives are on the case. Just like the other person who tried to attack us at the park, your gonna get caught. And know this that you’re a coward. You’re a coward. You’re a coward. You attacked me and than you ran from me. You had a weapon. I didn’t. Why’d you run? Stand and fight like a man. I’m standing there. Like my feet are planted on the pavement. Your running like a coward. We ask Allah (swt) to put us on the haqq and keep us on the haqq. And Allah will protect us and we will use the means of the law that is in the land. Because the law should not only be against us. It should work for us. Why is it that when we get called terrorist why is that they don’t get called terrorist. Why when this happens, David Wood, Apus where are your videos now condemning this action? When someone does this at Hyde park to a non Muslim you guys make videos in a second. But Muslim blood doesn’t matter to you. Your, you’re hypocrisy is going to be shown. Where are the news channels? No body wants to discuss this why? Because there’s a double standard. But were not going to except it. My brothers and sisters in the world, al hamdulillah they are with me. Allah (swt) is with me. We will continue our Daw’ah bithnAllah’ subhanwatala until Islam reaches every single home.”

I do apologize that I am not on the band wagon with this particular incident. I may receive allot of disdain from fellow Muslims. However, Uthman ibn Farooq has shown himself to be a person with a very short fuse. Even to the point of telling a heckling teenage boy that he would ‘knock him out’.

So the video itself admits that this was a ‘young man‘ who with some friends thought they would mock Uthman Ibn Farouq.

“What’s wrong with your accent you think it’s funny? You think it’s funny bro? No no no no don’t try to make jokes here bro. We don’t play like that. We know we don’t have that accent right? You know your trying to mess with us? We ain’t some foreigners out here you feel me? Alright. Take a Qur’an if you want but next time you try to make a joke I’ll knock you out! You feel me? We ain’t playing.”

Uthman Ibn Farouq proceeds to follow the young boy and the camera cuts off….

So, the same Uthman Ibn Farouq who calls people ‘Apus‘ and ‘Hammer Time Wood‘ and makes little joke about other’s faith’s gets triggered when some punk kid mimics (presumably an Indo-Pakistani) immigrant accent?

This is while the camera is rolling and footage of it is all over YouTube. No attempts by him to say maybe he overstepped himself that day. Nada. So if this is Uthman Ibn Farouq in a very manly lion like manner telling some punk kid that he would ‘knock him out‘ while the camera is rolling, while offering him to take the Qur’an one could imagine what he could be like off camera.

So let us look at what Uthman say’s in the video statement above:

I went to the urgent care.” -Uthman Ibn Farouq

Look, don’t get me wrong it sucks. There are people who will yell expletives at you on the road and/or act like complete jerks. However, is it really necessary to really cause further provocations with” “I told him come and face me.

I stopped at a gas station to put gas in my car he parked up top. I went closer to him and I told him If you have something to say come say to my face when I saw him come out of the car.”

So this is good. Uthman Ibn Farouq stopped at a gas station. Shouldn’t be too hard to tell us which one that was. The beautiful thing about gas stations are cameras! There are tons of cameras in gas stations. Gas stations get robbed, people steal gas and drive off. The police should have no problem and should be able to view the incident from multiple angles!

I went closer to him and I told him If you have something to say come say to my face when I saw him come out of the car. I recorded and we have recording and I’m gonna post it.”

I went closer to him” – does this mean that he pulled his car closer to to the guy or did he get out of his car and approach the man?

The footage doesn’t indicate that he pulled his car closer to him. There is certainly some distance between the two cars (and they don’t look like they are at a gas station). It seems as if Uthman Ibn Farouq went up to the man’s car but once the other man got out of his vehicle, Uthman ran back into his car.

It begs the question if Uthman Ibn Farouq wanted this guy to ‘fight him like a man‘ and he wanted to settle things like they do in the hood. Why pull out a camera and start recording? There is a word for that in the streets and I’ll refrain from using it. Needless to say it comes off as rather strange.

I recorded and we have recording and I’m gonna post it. Were gonna clip it and show you the recording.

Clip it – to shorten, snip, cut out.

In it he TRIED to attack me, physically. And you’ll see the altercation. And, and even though I punched him. And he was too cowardly to fight me like a man. He took a knife and he TRIED to cut me.

So, did the man attack him or did he TRY to attack him? In this sentence the only person who has admitted to any physical violence oddly enough is Uthman Ibn Farouq himself, ‘even though I punched him.’ Did the man actually knife him or did he TRY to knife him? If the man didn’t actually knife him that is a serious allegation to make. You also have to wonder where does the blood come from in the picture?

PLEASE NOTICE THE CIRCLED IMAGE IN THE PICTURE.

His attack did nothing to me. I went to the urgent care.” Wonder which urgent care facility in San Diego did he go to? That should not be too difficult to verify.

We have your weapon that’s been given to the police. We filed, a report has already been filed.

That is great because that would be a matter of public record.

Where are the news channels? No body wants to discuss this why? Because there’s a double standard.

Well, here is a local news channel:

https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/public-safety/story/2022-03-25/local-muslim-imam-says-in-viral-video-that-he-was-attacked-by-man-who-called-him-a-terrorist

Attempts to reach Sheikh Uthman on Friday were unsuccessful.”

Uthman Ibn Farouq. You can’t go around wanting to knock out ill mannered teenagers and challenging every random belligerent red neck to a fight and than cry foul when someone takes you up on your challenge. You, like everyone else have the absolute right to defend yourself! May Allah (swt) protect you from any and all harm. That being said, try to exercise sabr with these people.

I also hope that Allah (swt) guides Uthman Ibn Farouq to the straight path and that he will never teach false hood about Allah (swt), an example being that Allah (swt) has two eyes. Authubillah min dhalik.

May Allah (swt) guide us to what is beloved to Allah (swt).

    As Salaam u Alaykum,

Thank you for breaking this down brother, verbal abuse while unpleasant should be replied to with dignity as the Prophet Muhammad peace and blessings be upon him instructed,

he clearly states that he approached him, in an confrontational manner. Rather than smiling and getting on with his day, which infuriates more by the way he deployed street tactics, you can’t act street and then run to the authorities this I find cowardly.

It’s important to deescalate rather than inflame, it won’t help dawah and this kind of behavior only incites further violent confrontations.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a pacifist and believe one should defend themselves but our behavior is key and acting gangsta and fronting isn’t helpful. We Muslims should be striving for excellence and displaying the best in character and should we need to then defeating out enemies with wisdom and yes at times a strong hand.
