“And they say, “Never will the Fire touch us, except for a few days.” Say, “Have you taken a covenant with Allah? For Allah will never break His covenant. Or do you say about Allah that which you do not know?” Yes, whoever earns evil and his sin has encompassed him – those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.” (Qur’an 2:80-81)
May Allah (swt) cause us to die as Muslims! May Allah (swt) to cause us to die upon faith! This is a very powerful reminder!
All we need to do is make taubah (turn towards Allah, with our heart, our mind, and soul) and sincerely repent. Cut our connection to those things that lead us to haram. Find the company of righteous good companions. Bring all of our troubles and challenges to Allah (swt).
“Call upon Me; I will respond to you.” (Qur’an 40:6)
“O you who believe! save yourselves and your families from a fire whose fuel is men and stones; over it are angels stern and strong, they do not disobey Allah in what He commands them, and do as they are commanded.”(Qur’an 66:6)
Take heed seekers of truth. Fellow believers. Do not be beguiled by this short and fleeting life. The hereafter is better than this life!

I must admit that this seems more reasonable to me, I was always confused with the narrative that hellfire was a temporary abode, it seemed to give licence to majorly sin and still achieve the highest abode.
Could you possibly outline the ibadi stance on the hadith regarding the last to leave hellfire. Could I also ask the ibadi view on levels of Jannah and the levels of the hellfire.

Agreed!
This was one theological position that I did not want to be true. However, after looking at the clear evidence in front of me I could not deny that.
As regards the hadith are you referring to:
Abu Dharr reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, I know the last of the people of Paradise to enter it and the last of the people of Hell to come out of it. He is a man who is brought on the Day of Resurrection and it will be said: Present his minor sins to him and withhold his major sins. Then the minor sins will be placed before him and it will be said: On this day you did this, and this day you did this. He will say yes. It is not possible for him to deny it, while he will be afraid that his major sins will be presented before him. It will be said: In place of every evil deed you will receive one good deed. He will say: My Lord, I have done other things I do not see here.”

This and a number of of hadith which are very descriptive about the last person to enter Jannah, though it is clear to me after reading the comments by Abu Talha that they are to be rejected for their blatant contradiction of the Qur’an.

Any school of thought worth even considering teaches us that we shouldn’t hesitate to utterly and immediately abandon any hadīth that contradicts the Qur’ān.
Narrations like the one shared by the brother above and other tall tales about crispy critter ‘jahannamīs’ showing up late to the party in Paradise after crawling out of Hell are two prime examples of the sort of fantastical farcical flotsam we should be expected to jettison without a second thought for their complete contradiction of the plain, pure wording of God’s own revelation.
