When is Allah & Where is Allah: Collection of Articles.

“Have you not considered that Allah knows what is in the heavens and what is on the earth? There is in no private conversation three but that He is the fourth of them, nor are there five but that He is the sixth of them – and no less than that and no more except that He is with them [in knowledge] wherever they are. Then He will inform them of what they did, on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed Allah is, of all things, Knowing.” (Qur’an 58:7)

﷽

“The Most Compassionate, over the throne is established.” (Qur’an 20:5)

If someone ask us if we affirm the above verse the answer to that is, “Of course as Muslims we believe in every verse of the Qur’an.” If they are content to leave it at that we too are content.

If they ask us if we affirm the meaning that they affirm. Then that is a matter of discussion and debate.

“If we affirm sensory elevation in saying Allah is literally above, literally in heaven, what would that entail? Are the directions (above, below, front, back) eternal? If we affirm sensory elevation, we must either say these directions existed before Allah, or with Allah, or after Allah. If we say they existed before Him, that means they are more deserving of divinity, and that Allah is temporal and needs someone to bring Him into existence. If we say they coexisted with Him, that means they share in His eternity; yet Allah, as the Prophet said, “was and nothing was with Him,” and “was and nothing was with Him.” -Shaykh Dr. Sulaiman bin Ahmed Al-Khalili

” The Prophet (ﷺ) said “There was Allah and nothing else before Him and His Throne was over the water, and He then created the Heavens and the Earth and wrote everything in the Book.”

“Which agrees with the Quranic verses: “Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the Maintainer of everything.” (Qur’an 39:62) These directions are things, and the heavens are things, so they are created by Allah, existing after they did not exist. If we say they came after Him, meaning before their existence, if we say Allah was in heaven before heaven existed, where was Allah? Then Allah is the Necessary Existent. What does that mean? It means His existence is inherent, not dependent on anything else. That means no heaven, no Throne, no Footstool. Whereas the existence of others is dependent on Allah’s existence.” -Shaykh Dr. Sulaiman bin Ahmed Al-Khalili

Lastly, we can see an inconsistency in the position of our opponents. Especially when it comes to the following verses:

“Have you not seen that Allah knows all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth? There is no secret conference of three but He is their fourth, nor of five but He is their sixth, nor of less than that or more but He is with them wheresoever they may be (illā Huwa ma’ahum ayna mā kānū); and afterward, on the Day of Resurrection, He will inform them of what they did. Lo! Allah is Knower of all things.” (Qur’an 58:7)

The Arabic text does not contain: bi-’ilmihi (بِعِلْمِهِ) “with His knowledge”.

You can see the following translations in English here:

https://corpus.quran.com/translation.jsp?chapter=58&verse=7

You will not fail to notice the following translation:

Mohsin Khan: “Have you not seen that Allah knows whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is on the earth? There is no Najwa (secret counsel) of three, but He is their fourth (with His Knowledge, while He Himself is over the Throne, over the seventh heaven), nor of five but He is their sixth (with His Knowledge), not of less than that or more, but He is with them (with His Knowledge) wheresoever they may be; and afterwards on the Day of Resurrection, He will inform them of what they did. Verily, Allah is the All-Knower of everything.”

All the red text above in brackets. Why? Because this is not in the Arabic text. Rather this is a type of Ta’wil (interpretation) which is based upon speculative theology.

As we have shown and established the clear text from the Qur’an and Sunnah and sound reasoning is that Allah (swt) is the creator of ALL things.

We have shown that inconsistency in our opponents in handling of the text. They do the very thing (ta’wil) that they claim others do.
