Are Ibadi Muslims Kharijites?

“Oh my Lord, increase me in knowledge.”  (Qur’an 20:114)

﷽

RECLAIMING THE HISTORICAL NARRATIVE FROM THE ORIENTALIST AND FROM THE DETRACTORS OF TRUTH.

One thing that you will often hear from Orientalist as well as from our fellow Muslim brothers are two mistaken ideas.

#1) That Ibadi are Khawarij.

#2) That Ibadi grew out of the Khawarij.

Let’s address the first point.

The definition of Khawarij

Khawarij = “The ones that have gone out or have come out.”

In the Arabic language, it has no negative connotation in and of itself.

One of the largest Muslim daw’ah groups in the world our brothers” The Tablighi Jamaat” go out on Khuruj -going out in the path of Allah for 40 days.

“So from wherever you go out (kharajta)turn your face toward al- Masjid al-haram, and indeed, it is the truth from your Lord. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.” (Quran 2:149)

The Day they will hear the blast in truth. That is the(yawmu-khuruji) Day of Emergence.” (Qur’an 50:42)

The other point is that this term has is a polemical term used to disparage certain groups of Muslims. If we examine the polemical usage of the word than all the qualities that are used to say this particular sect is khawarij are equally applicable to all other factions and sects.

Unless, suddenly, we are going to pretend that we don’t have people saying that if you claim the Qur’an is created you should be killed.

In fact, for those who are genuinely interested in this subject, I highly recommend you read this 47 page PDF file. That has a nice big font and easy to read. Straight to the point.   Al-Khawarij

The points that are made in the above article are sound.

#1 Ask your people to define the term Khawarij.

What is the Arabic etymological root of the word and what does it mean in the Arabic language.   Once this is done please proceed to point 2.

#2 Now with that definition in mind ask on what consistent basis is this not applied to Talha and Zubhair?

Why are Talha and Zubhair not called Khawarij for opposing Ali?

Ali Ibn Abu Talib was the rightful amir of Muslims at that time was he not?

#3 Now with that definition in mind ask on what consistent basis is this not applied to Mu’awiya or Amr ibn Al ‘As?

Why is not Mu’awiya and Amr ibn al as not called a Khawarij for opposing Ali?

Ali Ibn Abu Talib was the rightful amir of the Muslims at that time was he not?

This in and of itself shows the supreme bias and inconsistency when the narrative is being told by certain historical narratives.

In fact did you know in Al Tabari Ali calls Mu’awiya as khawarij?

Ali identifies Mu’awiya as the Khawarij!

‘Ali told one of his followers named Al-Ashtar: “I told you that I assigned to Muhammed bin Abi Bakr the governorship (of Egypt); (but) these Khawarij have revolted against him.” Thus, according to ‘Ali, Mu’awiya and his followers were the Khawarij.

Sources: (Al-Tabari Al-Taarikh Vol. 6, p. 31.)

Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri’s hadith about Khawarij point to Mu’awiya and his Syrian forces.

Al-Hakim in his Al-Mustadrak narrates on the authority of Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri that when asked about the Khawarij, Abu Said’s answer pointed to Mu’awiya and his Syrian followers as being the Khawarij. That was why, in his answer, he quoted the Blessed Prophet (saw) as saying: “Ammaar (bin Yasir) would be killed by a rebellious group” and he was, as a matter of fact, killed by the Syrian forces who were under the leadership of Mu’awiya. This can be taken to show that the Khawarij, in the view of Abu Sa’id, were Mu’awiya and his followers otherwise he would need not to have mentioned them as his answer to the question of “Who were the Khawarij

Sources: (Refer to Al-Hakim Al-Mustadrak Vol. 2, p. 162-163. tradition no. 2653. Ibn Abdi Rabih Al-Iqdu Al-Farid Vol)

*Note* some publications have began to remove the reference in Al-Hakim!

The group that orientalist and the Shi’i and Ahl Sunnah as  “Khawarij”  believed that the blood of other Muslims who simply differ with them is permissible to take. They often make takfir of other Muslims -whereas we Ibadi Muslims do not do this.

Those other groups do not recognize Uthman and Ali as rightful Amir’s of the Muslims whereas we Ibadi Muslims recognize them. We simply admit that the latter part of Uthman’s reign suffered from nepotism and other issues. With Ali’s reign, It was his decision to abandon the Qurra as well as the clear guidance that Allah (swt) gave in the Qur’an. His killing of the companions at Nahrawan was not just.

Now while we are on the subject of taking the life of a fellow Muslim being a small matter let us take a look at something interesting.

Ali said:

“Whenever I narrate to you anything from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) believe it to be absolutely true as falling from the sky is dearer to me than that of attributing anything to him (the Holy Prophet) which he never said. When I talk to you of anything which is between me and you (there might creep some error in it) for the battle is an outwitting. I heard the Messenger of Allah (saw) as saying: There would arise at the end of the age a people who would be young in age and immature in thought, but they would talk (in such a manner) as if their words are the best among the creatures. They would recite the Qur’an, but it would not go beyond their throats, and they would pass through the religion as an arrow goes through the prey. So when you meet them, kill them, for in their killing you would get a reward with Allah on the Day of Judgement.”

Source: (https://sunnah.com/muslim/12/199)

Now my dear fellow Muslims, and researchers of truth. The very wording of this hadith is bizarre. First, the way that Ali Ibn Abu Talib words the hadith as if he is saying, “By the way, I know you people may have some doubts in me but trust me I won’t lie about the Prophet.”

The way that Ali prefaced the hadith merits some sober reflection.

So what does this particular hadith suggest that you do with these extremists? Does it suggest you try and reason with them? Does it suggest that you capture them? No. It tells you that you should kill them and that in fact, Allah will give you a reward for it. That sounds quite extreme indeed.

Let us now address the second point:

Ibadi did not come from the so-called “Khawarij” nor are we a branch of them. It is more appropriate and truthful to say that this polemical term has been used about us Ibadi’s as well as those from the Azraqi, Najdi, and Surfriya. The major point that we, the Ibadi, hold in common with them is that all three of these groups are in AGREEMENT on ONE FINE POINT history.

In the sense that all these groups are in agreement that Ali was in error in his decision to make arbitration with Muaviya.

Thus, in that sense, we are all known previously as (Al Muhakkimah), or those who adopt Quranic verses for resolving any issue or quarrel, it is just what Allah (swt) told us we should do. Please refer to the Qur’an (5:50 & 4:65, in the least)

The above graph has been taken and modified by some youtubers.

With the coming of Abdullah ibn Ibadh al-Murri al-Tamimi (r) this is when the Al Muhakkimah already became subgroups.

All that can be said about the above groups is that are in agreement that Ali should not have made arbitration with Muaviya.  Just like all Muslims are in agreement that Allah (swt) is one. Logically this does not mean that all Muslims have the same ideas about everything else.

The Nukkaris broke away from the Ibadi’s briefly than came back to the Ibadi. The Surfriyya eventually became absorbed into the Ibadi school in North Africa.  The Najdiyya, Azraqi, Bayhasiyya, and whomever else did not survive until today.

Some groups are known as the Azraqi, Najdi, and others, these are the people whom the Shi’i, Sunni, and Orientalists refer to as “Khawarij”. It is these groups that became quite extreme in their views. For anyone who has studied history knows that Ibadi’s directed polemical writings towards these other groups, especially the Azraqi and the Surfriyya.

For those of you who understand and speak Arabic, we would highly recommend this lecture.

Insh’Allah may your eyes be opened wide!

For those who do not speak or understand Arabic see the excellent write up by sister Bint Ibadh here:

http://bintibadh.blogspot.com/2013/01/abdullah-ibn-ibadh-truth-voice.html

The Ibadi after Abdullah ibn Ibadh (raheemullah). -They believe in peaceful existence and dialogue with other Muslims. They marry other Muslims and perform the funeral prayers for them as well. One brother from Saudi Arabia recently said to a friend of ours, “You Ibadi are Khawarij, Shi’a,  you support Iran!”

To which my friend replied, “We don’t support Iran, or Saudi Arabia or anyone. We support the Muslims. Who is doing to killing in Yemen? It is Sunni and Shi’a. Who is doing the fighting in Iraq? It is Sunni and Shi’a. Who is doing the killing in Syria? It is Sunni and Shi’a not us.  You will not find a single Ibadi scholar anywhere giving a fatwa in support of any side of these conflicts.”

In fact, the only struggle that we know of that we areaware of that Ibadi scholar support is the struggle of the Palestinians (Muslims) against the (Zionist). It seems that these other sectarian wars are a diversion to distract from this!

We would like to imagine that if we Ibadi had a powerful state today that we would come to the aid of Muslims anywhere, no matter if they are Sunni, Shi’i, Salafi, or Sufi, as they are all the ummah of Muhammed (saw)!!

In fact, the proof is in the example of the Ibadi community in Oman. We marry both Sunni and Shi’i and we have a beautiful and fruitful relationship with them. In fact, out of all the Arab nations, there is not a single representative in ISIS from Oman! Al hamdulillah!

We would direct you to the following article: https://www.indepthnews.net/index.php/the-world/middle-east-north-africa/3223-ibadis-are-ray-of-hope-for-the-middle-east

We would also like to add that in this world of chaos and turmoil it is more important than ever not to intentionally misrepresent one another.  It is very important that we cooperate and work together as much as possible.

For example, Our brothers among the Sunni have actually mocked their own intellectual giants, Imam Ahmed and Imam Abu Hanifa while in the process of mocking others.  The following article is demonstrative of that.  By mocking the beliefs of others it shows that these two giants among our brothers from Ahl Sunnah are people who are ignorant of the views of their interlocutors.

This certainly is embarrassing and not the way forward dear Muslims and fellow truth seekers.

The most glaring example used by our brothers from Ahl Sunnah as well as uniformed orientalist is that we Ibadi’s do not believe in arbitration.

Please see the following article to understand what we are talking about.

May Allah (swt) forgive the Ummah.

May Allah (swt) guide the Ummah.

Response to Salafi Preacher Assim Al-Hakeem On praying behind an Ibadi

“So High above all is Allah, the King, the True. And do not hasten with (reciting) the Qur’an before its revelation to you is concluded, and say, “My Lord, improve me in knowledge.” (Qur’an 20:114)

﷽

This entry was written as a response to a well-known Salafi Preacher by the name of Assim Al-Hakeem.

He has unfortunately uploaded a video in which he attacks Ahl al-Haqq wa-l istiqama (The People of Truth and Straightness). This is possibly due to one of three reasons.

Reason 1 is due to his lack of understanding.

Reason 2: maybe he made these statements about the Ibadi school while under the influence of alcohol. That is because Assim Al-Hakeem told young people all over the world that he “drinks beer” and that he is “proud of that.” So it is possible he made his comments while under the influence of intoxicants.

Reason 3 is this: Assim lied about his own Sunni Imam (Imam Malik) and it is not above him to willfully lie about the Ibadi or tell half-truths. May Allah (swt) guide him to a more just course.

Reason 1. His lack of understanding. No proper knowledge.

“Mabrouk says, who are the Ibaadiyyah? The Ibaadiyyah is a faction of Al Khawarij. It is one of the 72 sects that the Prophet (a.s) warned us from, dividing into. They follow the Khawarij; but they are a softer copy of the hard core Khwarij. And this what called Imam Ibn Taymiyyah (May Allah have mercy on his soul) to describe them as being the gay part of the Khawarij. They’re so gay compared to the Khawarij, that gives takfir and to have bloodshed. They are close in the attributes of Allah (Azawajal) to the Mutazila. So they deny allot of Allah’s attributes. They have their own misinterpretation when it comes to the scale and to the siraat. And to the things related to yom al qiyyamah (the day of judgement). They also believe that those who commit major sins are kafir, like the Khawarij. But they, it is is permissible to marry them. So they believe that those who are not from the Ibaadiyyah like us, they can marry from us and they can inherit from us. But we are, we will be in hellfire forever. And they have so many weird things. They believe the Qur’an is created and it is not one of Allah’s attributes. They believe that it is impossible to see Allah in paradise. So it’s a deviant cult. And allot of the scholars say that you must not pray behind them as the prayer would not be accepted and Allah knows best.”

The response to the Salafi Preacher Assim Al-Hakeem.

First point.

Assim says about us, “They’re so gay compared to the Khawarij, that gives takfir and to have bloodshed.”

Yet, he is the one who says, “And allot of the scholars say that you must not pray behind them as the prayer would not be accepted and Allah knows best.” Talk about takfir!

Second point.

Assim says about us,

“They have their own misinterpretation when it comes to the scale and to the siraat. And to the things related to yom al qiyyamah (the day of judgement).” He did not elaborate on what those things were. So it is challenging to comment upon what he did not elaborate upon.

Third point.

Assim says about us,

“So they deny allot of Allah’s attributes.” What attributes do they think we are denying? It is actually Assim Al-Hakeem’s group who make up attributes about Allah (swt).

Ibn ‘Uthaymeen stated:

“We believe that Allah, The Most High, has two real eyes. And this is the saying of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamā’ah. Abul-Hasan Al-Ash’aree said: The saying of Ahlus-Sunnah and the As-hāb Al-Hadeeth is that Allah has two eyes, without saying ‘how’ just as Allah has said, “[It was] sailing under Our Eyes.” (54:14).”

Source: (See Izālatus-Sitār ‘an Al-Jawāb Al-Mukhtār li-Hidāyatil-Muhtār of Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, p. 22; also Al-Maqālāt Al-Islāmiyyeen 1/345)

There is nowhere in the Qur’an or the Sunnah that says Allah “has two real eyes.”

The following video is for your educational purpose.

A typical conversation between us Ibadi and those who claim we deny the attributes of Allah (swt) usually goes like this.

Fourth Point.

Assim says about us,

“They also believe that those who commit major sins are kafir, like the Khawarij.”

If you want to read our understanding of this, based upon the Qur’an and Sunnah you may see the following:

https://primaquran.com/2022/10/04/the-position-of-the-ibadi-school-on-muslims-who-commit-major-sins/

Sixth point,

Assim says about us,

“But we are, we will be in hellfire forever.”

This is quite a statement considering Preacher Assim believes in the hadith of the 73 sects. So we could ask Preacher Assim. “Are the Ibadi part of the saved group or not?” We don’t say simply because someone is not Ibadi, they will be in hellfire forever! That is false. Please see what our noble Shaykh says here:

https://primaquran.com/2022/10/04/do-only-ibadis-go-to-heaven/

Seventh point,

Assim says about us,

“They believe the Qur’an is created, and it is not one of Allah’s attributes.”

That part is true. The Qur’an is created. It is not an attribute of Allah (swt). Although Allah (swt) does have the attribute of Speech. You may see our position here:

Eighth point,

Assim says about us,

“They believe that it is impossible to see Allah in paradise.”

That part is true. We stick to the evidence of the Qur’an & Sunnah. No one will see Allah (swt). Not in this life, not in the life to come.

Reason 2. Assim Al-Hakeem was under the influence of alcohol. He was intoxicated when he made such statements.

“I drink beer, and I’m proud of that. But the beer I drink before you quote me for that is from Saudi Arabia, and it has 2% maybe 3% alcohol, and it’s legal, and it’s halal. One says, “Oh, it has alcohol!” Akhi, If I drink half a pack, nothing happens.”

Now the individual who made the video above chooses to use the pejorative ‘Wahabi’. However, I prefer to use the term ‘Salafi’.

Now, obviously, images of Muslim youths breaking their Ramadan fast with a bottle of 3% Hoegaarden beer and dates do not sit well with many more sensible Muslims.

There was lots of backlash and so Assim issued a retraction, clarification, kind of, sort of, not really….
The Preacher Assim continues…. “The presence of alcohol, if you consume a large amount of it, and you are not intoxicated, this means that it is permissible to consume.” Because why is wine haram? Because if you drink a lot of it you become intoxicated. If I have a barrel of whatever substance, and I’m not wasted, I’m not intoxicated, then drinking a little bit is o.k. But, if I have a bottle of a liquid of a drink and if I drink the whole bottle, I become wasted, I become drunk, then a single drop of it is haram.

Preacher Assim is following the view of the famous Salafi Shaykh, Saleh Al-Uthaymeen. The same one above who says that Allah (swt) has “two very real eyes.”

May Allah guide us!

Shaykh Saleh Al-Uthaymeen gave a controversial beer drinking fatwa.

Please do not listen to people like Shaykh Saleh Al-Uthaymeen or Preacher Assim Al-Hakeem! Please listen to someone sensible like Shaykh Mufti Menk on this matter!

Reason 3. Preacher Assim Al-Hakeem lied about a Sunni Imam (Imam Malik); and it is not above him to willfully lie about the Ibadi or tell half-truths.

You read the following and you decide.

Preacher Assim Al-Hakeem otherwise makes himself available to people via social media. It is not sure what his methodology is or the school that he follows. However, he is to be warned against because he gravitates towards a flippant and non-sober approach to many issues that demand sobriety.

May Allah (swt) guide him and us!

“Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is guided.” (Qur’an 16:125)

May Allah (swt) Guide the Ummah.

May Allah (swt) Forgive the Ummah.

The Dinosaurs Never Existed ?

“And do not mix up the truth with the falsehood, nor hide the truth while you know it”. (Qur’an 2:42)

﷽

We had critiqued the hadith of the Blessed Prophet (saw) saying about Adam being 90 feet tall.

We wrote about that here:

https://primaquran.com/2022/10/04/ibn-hajar-al-asqalani-questions-hadith-about-90-foot-tall-adam

No less than a scholastic giant like Ibn Hajar Al Asqalani also questioned such a hadith.

“The hadith reported by Al-Bukhari that Adam’s height was sixty yards, has been criticized by Ibn Hajar on the basis of the measurement of the homes and dwellings of some of the ancient nations, which do not show that their inhabitants were enormously tall.”

As we have realized that modern science also has its own agenda. That is is not without bias, and funding and those who fund certain projects have desired results and agendas we began to take a closer look at some of the claims made by modern science and its various fields.

One of those is Paleontology . When someone who is a zoologist, paleontologist and author of seven books on dinosaurs makes a book on how to make Dinosaurs out of chicken bones it raises an eye brow.

Chris McGowan has created a fascinating “how-to” book that instructs older children and adults how to use the boiled, cleaned and dried bones of supermarket chickens to craft a highly-detailed skeleton of an Apatosaurus — the dinosaur more popularly known as a Brontosaurus.

Salafi Shaykh Muqbil Al Wadi’i Hadith in Sahih Muslim on Seeing Allah is actually weak!

The faculties of seeing (tudriku) cannot grasp Him, and He grasp all–seeing (yudriku), He is the All-Subtle and All-Aware.” (Qur’an 6:103)

﷽

Salafi Shaykh Muqbil Al Wadi’i Hadith in Sahih Muslim on Seeing Allah is actually weak!

So Imam Al Daraqutni had a commentary about these hadith. In his book he made notes about these ahadith. Than comes along this big hadith scholar from Yemen. This hadith scholar is from the Salafi sect. His name is Muqbil bin Hadi bin Muqbil bin Qa’idah al-Hamdani al-Wadi’i al-Khallali.

So he took the book written by Imam Al Daraqutni and he made his own notes.

He said about the hadith of Ziyada under Sahih Muslim about the hadith ziyada that the ahl jannah will see Allah (swt) in the Jannah. (Astaghfirullah)

Imam Muqbil al-Wadi’i As Salafi, says this hadith is mistake by Thabit Umani. In the chain, the sanaad.

No one else has ever made this claim other than Muqbil al-Wadi’i Only Thabit al Bunani says this hadith is from Suhayb

The words of the hadith from Shaykh Thabit Bunani only go up to Abdulrahman bin Abi Laylaa only!

It is not from Suhayb nor from the Blessed Messenger (saw).

The words go up to Shaykh Abdulrahman bin Abi Laylaa (only!)

And according to their statement the mistake is coming by Hamaad bin Salamah. For any Hadith that comes through the channel of this man be careful!

There are four students under Thabit al Bunani

  1. Hammad ibn Salamah
  2. Sulaymān ibn al-Mughīrah
  3. Hammad bin Zayd
  4. Hamaad bin Waaqid

So this Imam Muqbli is saying the hadith is in Sahih Muslim is either weak or outright fabricated! On this point he is in agreement with the safe road, The Muslims, the Ibadi school.

You may find the following articles useful:

May Allah (swt) guide this ummah to what is beloved to Allah (swt). We continue to call the people to the way of the Muslims, To the doctrine of transcendence. The way of the Qur’an and the Sunnah. For this is the safest and securest road.

Was Dr. Muhammed Salah teacher of the Salafi Sect Dishonest about Moses Seeing Allah.

Say, “My Lord has only forbidden immoralities – what is apparent of them and what is concealed – and sin, and oppression without right, and that you associate with Allah that for which He has not sent down authority, and that you say about Allah that which you do not know.” (Qur’an 7:33)

“And who is more unjust than he who invents a lie about Allah ? Those will be presented before their Lord, and the witnesses will say, “These are the ones who lied against their Lord.” Unquestionably, the curse of Allah is upon the wrongdoers.” (Qur’an 11:18)

﷽

It is wrong to be dishonest about a Messenger of Allah (swt) and to deceive the people in the matter of theology.

“Even in the case of Prophet Moses (Peace be upon him) Prophet Musa (alayi salam) begged Allah to see him. Because he could hear him. Now he wanted to see him. He said, and that is recorded in surah Al Araf My Lord allow me to see you. His Lord said, You will never be able to see me….in this life. But when he insisted He said: Look at the mountain if the mountain stands still then perhaps you can see me. And a mountain is definitely much more stronger and powerful than Musa and all the human beings. So Allah The Almighty did as follows: The ayat 143 of surah Al Araf So Allah The Almighty allowed light beam of his light to shine at the mountain, the mountain turned into dust. Full of thunder, it turned into dust, like shredded wool. Then Musa (alayi salam) upon seeing what happened to the mountain he fell unconscious and then when he came back to his consciousness he realized that he was mistaken when he insisted on seeing Allah The Almighty. I repent unto you, I shall not ask for that again.” -Dr. Muhammad Salah

There are quite a few things wrong here with what the Salafi preacher had said.

#1) No where in the Qur’an does Allah (swt) say, “You will never be able to see me in this life” as if to indicate you will see Allah (swt) in the next life. It simply says, ‘You will never be able to see me!’

These people will tell lies about Allah (swt) and go against the clear text of the Qur’an and the Sunnah.

#2) Actually what Musa (alayi salam) said was:

“Highly Exalted are You; I have indeed repented to you, and I am the first of the believers.“

First of the believers in what?

Let us look at how various translations deal with verse in question:

“When Moses came at the appointed time and his Lord spoke to him, he said, “My Lord, show [Yourself] to me, so that I might see You.” Allah said, “You can never see Me. However, behold this mountain. If it remains firm in its place, then you will see Me.” As soon as his Lord revealed His limitless glory to the mountain, He caused it to crumble to dust and Moses fell down unconscious. After he recovered, he said, “May You be exalted in Your glory! I repent! I will be the first of the believers!” (Qur’an 7:143)

https://www.islamawakened.com/quran/7/143/

Time to manipulate English translations based upon the theological bent one has!

“Never can you see me.”

“You can never see me”

Both of the above translations are correct. It is the one that Dr. Muhammad Salah uses as well. Except, that he added to what Allah (swt) stated whe he mentions: “in this life.”

“You cannot see me” This translation can be understood as “You cannot see me now” Notice the absence of the word ‘never’.

“But when his Lord manifested Himself to the mountain.” Is the belief that Allah (swt) did reveal himself to the mountain.

Did Allah (swt) really reveal himself to that mountain? In the anthropomorphic sense that the Salafi claim? He appeared in His true form? Then where is he after this Transfiguration? Did he remain there or did he disappear? Did he vanish? Allah (swt) is the friend of the Blessed and Noble Messenger, Ibrahim who said in the same Qur’an:

“When the night overshadowed him, he saw a star and said, “This is my Lord!” But when it went down he said, “I do not like things that vanish.” (Qur’an 6:76)

“When his Lord manifested His glory on the mountain.” This is more sensible especially when consider that even the revelation of Allah (swt), the Qur’an could crush mountains.

“If We had sent down this Qur’an upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and coming apart from fear of Allah. And these examples We present to the people that perhaps they will give thought.” (Qur’an 59:21)

What is the view of the Muslims, The Ibadi School?

Well, dear reader, know that we Muslims put the Qur’an first. We do not attribute words and sayings to Allah (swt) that Allah (swt) did not say. This is a huge sin.

Musa (alayi salam) was aware of the impossibility of seeing Allah, but in asking for it he did not intend obtaining the impossible. He only intended thereby to hold back his people, who were stubborn in seeking it and made their belief in his Message dependent upon it.

“And recall when you said, “O Moses, we will not believe in you unless we see Allah plainly.” Thereupon the thunderbolt struck you while you were beholding.” (Qur’an 2:55)

It is obvious that these demands came before the Musa (alayi salam) approached Allah (swt). Musa (alayi salam) It is not difficult to see that this was a repeated request on their behalf, as the Qur’an mentions this in another place as well.

“The People of the Book demand that you make a book physically come down to them from heaven, but they demanded even more than that of Moses when they said, ‘Show us Allah face to face,’ and were struck by the thunderbolt for their presumption. Even after clear revelations had come down to them, they took the calf as an object of worship, yet We pardoned this, and gave Moses clear authority.” (Qur’an 4:153)

Now is it sensible to think that Musa would ask for the very same thing that they asked for and received the rebuke that they did for doing so?
By Allah, to allege such a thing is nothing other than to put Musa (alayi salam) among the despicable ones from among the Children of Israel and to lower him to the level of the ignorant ones.

The proof that Musa (alayi salam) was not asking for himself, is because Allah (swt) could have replied to Musa (alayi salam), “You can never see Me.” This would have been sufficient for a believer.

The proof is that the mountain was destroyed.

Who witnessed the destruction of this mountain? Do you not think people would notice the sudden destruction of a mountain?

If the following happened to Musa (alayi salam) “He caused it to crumble to dust and Moses fell down unconscious.”

What do you think happened to the children of Israel who witnessed this?

“Thereupon the thunderbolt struck you while you were beholding.”

“and were struck by the thunderbolt for their presumption“

Notice after Musa (alayi salam) recovered he says, “”May You be exalted in Your glory! I repent! I will be the first of the believers!“

Why did Musa (alayi salam) say that he will be ‘the first of the believers’ when he is already a believer? Did the incident prove that Allah (swt) can be seen or not seen? Was Allah (swt) seen? No! So Musa (alayi salam) was testifying that he would be foremost among those who deny that Allah (swt) can be seen.

This is the correct belief on the matter:

This is the belief of the Muslims, those who are upon sound theology.

The consistent view would be that Allah is in a set of locations.

“Do they not consider the Qur’an (with care)? Had it been from other Than Allah, they would surely have found therein Much discrepancy.” (Qur’an 4:82)

﷽

Now if I was to follow that particular aqidah view I would have to be at least be consistent with myself and consistent with the text of the Qur’an. So again we have nothing stating that x/y is the default place for Allah (swt).

The correct view if we are to take the verses as they and apply a consistent methodology would be to say that Allah (swt) exist in a set [4,0 & 0,4 & 3,4 & 4,3 & 3,5 & 5,3 etc.…]

We describe Him (swt) by what has been authenticated that he described himself with. And we affirm for Him (swt) what the Prophet (saw) has affirmed for Him in his authentic Sunnah. As for those that say that we affirm for Allah what He has affirmed for Himself. They wanted from that to believe in the literal text and pass it as it came. For example, when He (Allah)-Great and Glorious God says:

“The Most Merciful [who is] above the Throne established.” (Qur’an 20:5) For this ayat (verse) when taken literally implies that Allah has a position, and he is above the throne, he says like this. This is the literal meaning.

And when I discussed with one of them regarding this,. I asked him, “Do you always stick to the literal meaning?”

He said, “Yes I do stick to the literal always, I don’t differ nor do I alter.” I said, “Let’s agree to stick to the literal meaning and I will agree on this ruling till a certain time, but I hope that you’ll stick to it and don’t change your words. Now me and you have both agreed on the same madhab and the same opinion.

Which is to say: The affirmation and passing of the ayats (verses) like they came, and taking the literal meanings, and building the belief upon it. (the opinion).

“Good”, he said, “Good”. I said, “Then this ayat (verse), Allah affirms a position for himself which is above the throne {The Most Merciful [who is] above the Throne established.} But in another ayat(verse) Allah says, “Indeed, my Lord is on a path [that is] straight.” (Qur’an 11:56)

Is the straight path the same as the throne or a different thing? Without doubt it’s another place, then this is a 2nd position. And you must affirm the literal meaning.

In a third ayat, Our Lord, Great and Glorious God says: “There are not three in a private conversation but that He is the fourth of them, nor are there five but that He is the sixth of them-and no less than that and no more except that He is with them.” (Qur’an 58:7)

This is a third place, different from the throne and different from the straight path.

And in a fourth ayat (verse), He (Allah) Great and Glorious God says about his Prophet Musa (as) ”No! Indeed, with me is my Lord; He will guide me.” Qur’an 26:62 and Musa (as) was on the beach of the Red Sea when he said this.

And in a fifth ayat, Allah tells us about our Prophet (saw) that he said when he was in Ghar Thawr (a cave that Muhammed-saw hid in)

“Have no fear, for Allah is with us.” (Qur’an 9:40)

And Allah tells us about his Khalil (Friend), Ibrahim (as) that he said: “I will go to my Lord! He will surely guide me!” (Qur’an 37:99)

And he (Allah) Great and Glorious God says in another ayat (verse) “But there he finds Allah, Who settles his account in full.” (Qur’an 24:39)

And he says in another ayat (verse) He says: “There is no creature but that He holds it by its forelock.” (Qur’an 11:56)

And the Prophet (saw) says in his Sunnah “A slave becomes nearest to his Lord when he is in prostration.” Source: (https://sunnah.com/riyadussalihin:1428)

And he says as well mentioning about Allah “Did you not know that my servant so and so was ill and yet you did not visit him? Did you not know that if you had visited him you would have found me with him?” Source: (https://sunnah.com/muslim:2569)

“When any one of you prays, he must not spit in front of him, for Allah is in front of him when he is engaged in prayer.” Source: (https://sunnah.com/bukhari:416)

Which of these literal meanings will you take? Now I am following your madhab.

On the throne? Or on the straight path, or is he the fourth of the three or the sixth of the fifth or in Ghar Thour, or on the beach of the Red Sea or in or where? Or in the prostration position?

He said: “All of these are not taken literally except {The Most Merciful [who is] above the Throne established.}”

I said: “Then you broke your ruling.” “You broke your ruling.”

Anyhow, taking the literal meaning falsifies the fact that the source of the Qur’an is from Allah. It falsifies that, why?

Because Allah says, “Had it been from anyone other than Allah, they would have certainly fund in it many inconsistencies.”(Qur’an 4:82) -and taking the literal meanings leads to that.

Sticking to the literal meaning leads to this inconsistency, because Allah Great and Glorious God affirms a hand for himself, and two hands, and affirms more than that..

{Allah’s hand is over theirs.}-Qur’an 48:10 {Rather, both his hands are extended}-Qur’an 5:64 {Do they not see that We have created for them from what Our hands have made, grazing livestock} –Qur’an 36:71

Which of these literal meanings will you take?

{sailing under Our ‘watchful’ Eyes} –Qur’an 54:14 { so that you would be brought up under My ‘watchful’ Eye.} –Qur’an 20:39 This is singular and that is plural, and lowest plural is 3 some say.

So, which of these literal meaning will you take? {they would have certainly found in it many inconsistencies.}

Taking the literal meaning is a ruling that is broken and false but actually rotten and sluggish. It’s not looked upon and not depended upon. And it’s throwed to the side of the walls. The same is in the sunnah as well.

Those that take the path of affirming the attributes by affirming and passing them like they came and took the literal meaning have contradicted this ruling of theirs and have heavily crushed it and they have left it crumbled and fragmented and have not left a peaceful (part) of it ever!

And there’s nothing which implies that as much as the act of some when he came to the hadith “Do not curse Time, for it is Allah Who is Time.” Is it not like this?

Source: (https://sunnah.com/muslim:2247a)

He said: “No this hadith is not taken by the literal meaning.” (For it is Allah Who is Time) Else its literal meaning implies the divinity of time! Does it not?

Also, “I become the hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes, and his leg with which he walks.” -taking the literal meaning leads to the belief of divine indwelling, is that not the case?

Source: (https://sunnah.com/qudsi40:25)

And they fight that very fiercely!!! Taking the literal meaning is a false method.

So when we say that we affirm what Allah has affirmed for himself we take out taking the literal meaning.

And when we say we affirm for Him (Allah) what the Prophet (saw) has affirmed for him in his Sunnah, then we mean the Mutawatir not any other.

What’s authentic about our Prophet (saw) in tawatur with clear mention of the attribute, in approval or rejection.

These people who ascribe to Allah (swt) a place are in error in their aqidah. May Allah (swt) guide them and us! May Allah (swt) forgive the Ummah!

Ibn Taymiyya claims the majority of Sahabah (Companions) and Tabi’in (Followers) hated Ali Ibn Abi Talib

“Verily, those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, the Most Beneficent (Allah) will bestow love for them (in the hearts of the believers).” (Qur’an 19:96)

﷽

Ibn Taymiyya al Harrani in his as–Sunnah an-Nabawiyyah when he comments about the above ayat in relation to Ali ibn Abi Talib that:

“Allah (swt) has told that He will place on the believers and those that preform good, love. And this is a true promise from him. Especially for the Caliphs Abu Bakr (ra) and Umar Ibn Al Khattab (ra) for the general amount of companions loved them and they were the best periods of Islam. Ali was not like that, as a large number of companions (sahabah) and followers (tab’ieen) hated him, cursed him and fought him.”

Source: (منهاج السنة النبوية في نقض كلام الشيعة والقدرية Minhaj al-Sunnah al-Nabawiyyah fi Naqd Kalam al-Shi’a wa al-Qadariyyah)

The implication (though not explicitly stated by Ibn Taymiyya) was that Ali was not of those who worked deeds of righteousness.

Ibn Taymiyya continues:

“They love and venerate him, while Abu Bakr and Umar – may God be pleased with them – have been hated and cursed by the Rafidah (Rejectors), the Nusayriyyah, the Ghulat (Extremists), and the Ismailis. However, it is known that those who loved those two (1) are better and more numerous, and that those who hated them are further from Islam and fewer.”

“This contradicts the case of Ali, for those who hated and fought him are better than those who hated Abu Bakr and Umar. In fact, the faction of Uthman, who love him and hate Ali, even if they are innovators and wrongdoers, are more knowledgeable and religious than the faction of Ali who love him and hate Uthman, and they are greater in jihad and justice. Thus, it is clear that the affection mandated for the three [first Caliphs] is greater.”

“And if it is said: ‘Claims of divinity and prophethood have been made about Ali (2),’ it is replied: ‘All the Khawarij considered him a disbeliever and the Marwaniyyah hated him. And these are better than the Rafidah who curse Abu Bakr and Umar – may God be pleased with them – let alone the Extremists (3).'”

Sociological Experiment: Ali, Umar and Fatima

“Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice. Excellent is that which Allah instructs you. Indeed, Allah is ever Hearing and Seeing.” (Qur’an 4:58)

﷽

This is a sociological experiment our colleague conducted on their social media regarding the tale of some from among the Shi’i in relation to Umar (ra), Ali and Fatima (ra).

Narrated `Aisha:

Once, Fatima came walking and her gait resembled the gait of the Prophet (saw). The Prophet (saw) said, “Welcome, O my daughter!” Then he made her sit on his right or on his left side, and then he told her a secret and she started weeping. I asked her, “Why are you weeping?” He again told her a secret and she started laughing. I said, “I never saw happiness so near to sadness as I saw today.” I asked her what the Prophet (saw) had told her. She said, “I would never disclose the secret of Allah’s Messenger (saw).” When the Prophet (saw) died, I asked her about it. She replied. “The Prophet (saw) said: ‘Every year Gabriel used to revise the Qur’an with me once only, but this year he has done so twice. I think this portends my death, and you will be the first of my family to follow me.’ So I started weeping. Then he said. ‘Don’t you like to be the chief of all the ladies of Paradise or the chief of the believing women? So I laughed for that.”

Source: (https://sunnah.com/bukhari:3623)

If indeed the Shi’i believe that this narration is true and that Fatima (ra) would be the first from among the family of the Beloved Messenger (saw) to die, it cannot also be true that the “unborn” son of Fatima would die as he would technically be the ‘first of my family’ to follow.

Ali bin Abi Talib said:

“When al Hassan was born, the Prophet (saw) came and said: Show me, my boy, what have you named him? I said: I called him Harb, he said: Nay,” He is Hassan When al Hussein was born, the Prophet (saw)said: Show me my boy, what have you named him? I said: Harb, he said: Nay, he is Hussein, and when the third was born, the Prophet (saw) came, then said: Show me, my boy, what have you named him? I said: Harb. He said: Nay, he is Muhassin, then he said: I have named them after the names of the children of Haroun(Aaron). They are Shibr, Shubeir, Mushabbar.”

It’s not believable to say that Muhassin was aborted as a fetus and yet the above narration says that he was born.

Here is a video of Ayatollah Sayyid Fadhlallaha, a Shi’i Imam, who thinks this whole tale about Ali, Umar (ra) and Fatima (ra) is a big fat, juicy fabrication. For those who can’t click on English subtitles in the post, we have put the YouTube link where you can click on English subtitles.

Surely the Imam has his reward with Allah (swt) for seeking truth on the matter.

Also, remember the presence of a statement in a book does not necessarily make it authentic. We do not know of anyone who holds this position. The chains of narrators the isnad needs to be scrutinized. Do the reports contradict other pieces of evidence? This is what needs to be understood when engaging in dialogue with anyone from among the Muslims.

Now let us assume, for the sake of argument, that this incident took place as suggested by the Shi’i. Obviously, learned people like the Ayatollah above don’t buy it for a hot minute.

SOCIOLOGICAL EXPERIMENT ON FACEBOOK. I CALL THIS: “THE FATIMA EXPERIMENT”

So, knowing that Muslims have a vested interest in this alleged incident and there are emotional attachments to it, I decided to ask people who were absolutely clueless about this incident.

I decided that I would ask my non-Muslim friends about their thoughts concerning the characters of the two major individuals in this incident. So this is the data that I gave to them:

I want my non-Muslim friends to answer this question. Any Muslim who comments, I’ll delete it. This is a sociological experiment.

What would you say about a man (person A) who punched another man’s wife (person B) in the stomach and caused her to miscarry? Person B (a man) does absolutely nothing in response to person A (a man).

Later, person B marries one of his daughters to person A.

Person B names his son after person A.

In the Fatima experiment. Person A is Umar Ibn Al Khattab (ra) and Person B is Ali ibn Abu Talib.

What follows are their responses. Some of them are quite interesting. I have covered up their names to protect/respect their personal privacy.  These are mostly U.S. Americans. They hold nothing back.

Well, so there you have it. 20 different responses to this scenario. Not favourable views of Umar (ra) and almost unanimously unfavourable views of Ali

Now we have The Lady of Heaven film that has created quite a controversy.

May Allah (swt) guide our tongues to speak the truth and our hearts to have the courage to say it. May Allah (swt) guide us from speaking falsely about any person’s incident or matter. Amin!

Salafi preacher admits a companion killed Uthman not the so called Khawarij.

“However, whoever deliberately slays another believer, his requital shall be hell, to abide there in; and Allah will condemn him, and will reject him, and will prepare for him awesome suffering.” (Qur’an 4:93)

Salafi preacher insults the companion Amr b. al-Hamiq al-Khuzāʿī for stabbing Uthman in the chest 9 times. He did this out of ignorance. However, once senior and more learned scholars told him that Amr b. al-Hamiq al-Khuzāʿī was a companion he had to resort to the position of ‘May Allah be pleased with them all.’

You have to wonder what was the conclusion of this Shaykh  even after he found out there was only one Hamaq al Khuzai and that was the Sahabi who killed Uthman.

So let us just pretend like the narrations are not in the books, and pretend that he didn’t insult the companion who claimed he killed Uthman.

It is also worthy of note that Amr b. al-Hamiq al-Khuzāʿī joined the ranks of Ali bin Abi Talib.

If there was some supposed hadith of ‘the 10 promised paradise’, Uthman certainly didn’t recite it. Those who wanted him dead and those who killed him certainly never heard of it.

Just for the readers information, I did not create the above video. I did not really enjoy the giggling and laughing in the background of the video. It takes away from the serious nature of the point being made.

By the way Amr b. al-Hamiq al-Khuzāʿī is only one. There are other companions who participated in this. However, some people wish to deceive the masses, and erase names from history and claim some shadowy group were involved in all these things.

This is to uphold their doctrines and not to uphold the truth.

Remember, the noble commander of the faithful Umar Ibn Al Khattab (ra) who said:

““O people, if anyone from among you finds any fault in me, he should rectify it.” A man stood up and said, “If we find any crookedness in you, we will rectify it with our swords.” Umar (ra) said, “I am thankful to Allah that he has created such a man in this nation who would rectify Umar’s crookedness with his sword.”

“That is a nation which has passed on. It will have what it earned, and you will have what you have earned. And you will not be asked about what they used to do.” (Qur’an 2:141)

If you must know. Shaykh Masoud bin Mohammed Al Miqbali (h) lays it out for you.

May Allah (swt) open the eyes and the hearts of this ummah!

Do Salafiyya truly believe that Allah chuckles and laughs at the despair of the Palestinians?

Say, “My Lord has only forbidden immoralities – what is apparent of them and what is concealed – and sin, and oppression without right, and that you associate with Allah that for which He has not sent down authority, and that you say about Allah that which you do not know.” (Qur’an 7:33)

ALLAH LAUGHS AT THE DESPAIR OF HIS SLAVES?

Waki’ bin Hudus narrated that his paternal uncle Abu Razin said:

“The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Allah laughs at the despair of His slaves although He soon changes it.’ I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, does the Lord laugh?’ He said: ‘Yes.’ I said: ‘We shall never be deprived of good by a Lord Who laughs.'”

Source: (https://sunnah.com/ibnmajah:181)

“The Messenger of Allah said: Allah chuckles at the despair of His slaves although He soon changes it.’
I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, does the Lord chuckle?’ ‘He said: ‘Yes.’ I said: ‘We shall never be deprived of good by a Lord Who chuckles.”

Now if we take this hadith alone it is challenging to suggest that chuckling/laughing can be interpreted as Mercy. Because, even the companion ask, ‘Does Allah chuckle?’ and it would be difficult to imagine the companion asking, ‘Does the Lord show Mercy’. I mean we recite the Qur’an as bismillah ir rahman ir raheem. Most Merciful and Most Compassionate.

However, this is a lone narrator report. We in Ahl Haqq Wal Istiqamah (The Ibadi School) we do not make lone narrator reports as a basis for our faith. What we do is look at other ahadith where these idioms are used to show if there is other meanings.

If we are to take this lone narrator report at the apparent meaning as the Salafi -Athari suggest than it means that Allah (swt) is laughing, chuckling etc at the despair and pain that humanity undergoes.

It takes a depraved human being and a twisted imagination to suggest that Allah (swt) would have a hearty chuckle at the despair and misery of humanity.

Children being sexually abused by their parents.

People starting to death in this world.

You going to say that Allah (swt) is laughing/chuckling at this?!

Furthermore does this laughing and chuckling produce a sound such that we can say that it is uncreated? Such that one can imagine an eternal chuckling and laughing at the despair, torture and pain of a creation that has yet to be created?

We wonder why people are Atheist?

Either the people who invent such falsehoods have a very low estimation of the Divine, or the Creator they worship is more horribly morbid than the darkest corner of human imagination could fathom.

However, because this hadith is graded as ‘Hasan’ those who take the lone narrator reports will insist,

We believe that Allah chuckles/laughs …with the disclaimer (in a way that befits his majesty!

“It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said:  Allah chuckles at the two men both of whom will enter Paradise (though) one of them kills the other. They said: Messenger of Allah, how is it? He said: One of them fights in the way of Allah, the Almighty, and Exalted. and dies a martyr. Then Allah turns in mercy to the murderer who embraces Islam, fights in the way of Allah, the Almighty, and Exalted, and dies a martyr.”  (‘Sahih’ Muslim Kitab Al-Imara hadith number 4658)

Source: (https://sunnah.com/muslim:1890a)

If we understand the mention about Allah (swt) chuckling as his act of Mercy than this is not a problem. It is an idiom or an expression.

However, if as some in the Muslim community do (ever ready to kick every one else out of Islam), insist that we have to take this at the apparent meaning it is very dark.

These kinds of hadiths are reminiscent of the stuff attributed to Allah (swt) in the Bible.

“And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.” (Exodus 32:14)

“The LORD regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.” (Genesis 6:6)

So we would take the two hadith and combine them and our understanding would be the laughing/chuckling as an idiom or expression of Allah’s mercy that is soon to follow any act of despair, as long as the people put their tawakkul (trust) in Allah (swt).

“Say, “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.” (Qur’an 39:53)

May Allah (swt) Forgive the Ummah.

May Allah (swt) Guide the Ummah.
